Erasmus MC is an innovative center for high-quality medical research, education and care. The project will be carried out by Wiro Niessen and Theo van Walsum of the Biomedical Imaging Group Rotterdam (BIGR) (www.bigr.nl) of Erasmus MC, which is a joint initiative of the Departments of Medical Informatics and Radiology. Through innovative fundamental and applied research it develops and validates advanced techniques for the processing and analysis of large, complex, and heterogeneous biomedical image data sets. The BIGR group currently consists of around 45 researchers (25 PhD students, 8 Postdocs and 7 staff members), and has activities and expertise in the fields of cardiovascular image analysis, neuro image analysis, molecular and cellular image analysis, oncology image analysis, and image guided interventions.
The group is internationally well-known, has much national and international collaboration, and is involved in the organization of several international workshops and conferences in medical image analysis and image guided interventions.
